Hand made from old repurposed wood boxes.
Carefully carved and layered creating its geometric pattern.
Newly upholstered with original wool stuffing and soft period appropriate felt.

Clean, functional and ready to use!

CONDITON
Very nice condition overall.
Typical wear, scuffs, scratches, nicks and chips in wood, wear to finish, etc.
Box opens and closes nicely, as should.
Fabric was replaced and is very good condition, still has original interior wool stuffing.
Cleaned, conditioned, ready for use.

BRIEF HISTORY OF TRAMP ART:
Widespread but not well-know folk art movement in the United States, popular between 1870-1930. Centered on making useful and functional art pieces like picture frames, wall hangings, keepsake boxes, sewing boxes, and even tables and chairs. The medium was primarily discarded cigar boxes or shipping crates carefully carved and layered to make intricate geometric designs. The name, tramp art, suggests these craftsmen were hobos. In fact they were skilled German or Scandinavian immigrants who traveled selling their wares.
